Besides art projects in public space, the Virtual Museum also realises Virtual Zoom, a long-term photographic project with the objective of registering different aspects of the Zuidas as the years go by. Producing images is a way of connecting present, past and future in a topical manner. Virtual Zoom is a photographic project in which both photographers and artists are invited to participate. The project’s external adviser is Willem van Zoetendaal.

On April 10, 2008 the complete collection of the Virtual Zoom has been transferred to FOAM. The exhibition ‘Expanding the City’, an overview of the photographs of the Virtual Zoom project presented in the Amsterdam photography museum FOAM, was a great success. During the exhibition, some 25,000 people visited FOAM. The Virtual Zoom photographs have now been handed over to the Amsterdam Photography Museum, where they form the beginning of a vast collection. FOAM director Marloes Krijnen speaks highly of the richness of the Virtual Zoom collection and the unique assignment situation, in which artists are given the freedom to register developments occurring in the Zuidas as they see fit.
