Rietveld Academy | Loesje (1983)

‘Loesje’ is an initiative that essentially everyone can take part in. On the web site you can add your text to posters and postcards, which also can be printed from the site. Their subsequent distribution is up to you. In a sense, Loesje has created her own free space by spreading posters that contain text; in doing so, she always injects an aspect of humanity and humour into public space.

Loesje first held a workshop/writing session with the residents of the Zuidas. There was also a workshop with students from the Rietveld Academy and with participants in the Zuidas Free Spaces project.

THE IDEAL CITY
COULD THIS BE IT
Loesje

Why was I invited to mess around with the biggest castle-in-the-air of the Netherlands? Maybe because I also like to build castles in the air. But when I first walked around in the Zuidas, I immediately lost myself in all the mirrored glass of the macho office buildings. I almost couldn’t see the Beatrix Park anymore.

I started asking people about it, people who live at the edge of the area, people who work and study there. I wanted to know what they felt about the development of the Zuidas. And with everyone who wanted to do it, I made posters. Posters that can be publicly distributed, in order to let other people know what we actually think about all this, about the new high-rises, railways and roads, plans and goals of Zuidas Inc.
